Be Brave...Welcome to Our Disney Highland Games

"Where is my little Birthday girl, hm? I'm going to gobble her up when I find her!"

Welcome to the Highland Games!  Thanks for stopping by to check out our most recent party...Be Brave! My daughter is a huge Disney fan and when Merida hit the Disney stands there was... not a doubt... that a Brave themed birthday would be in our near future. Will-o'-the-Wisps, (royal blue Sophisti wrap twisty tied to wooden skewers) lined the walkways and driveway to lead the party guests to their fate and to lots of party fun!
The Crafty Carver!
Deep in the overgrown Highland forest...
"Oh, look around. You holler if you see anything you like. Everything is half off."....  "You're a Witch!!...  Woodcarver!!... I'm not a witch! Too many unsatisfied customers!"
Complete with a Witches broom and talking Crow..our Crafty Carver offered guests lots of crafty fun!
"By the second sunrise, your spell will be permanent unless you remember these words: Fate be changed, look inside, mend the bond torn by pride"  ...."Now off to the Wicker Man Festival."
Our Crafty Carver was home to some fun party crafts...Our lemonade stand sure does come in handy for party set ups....check out it's history here http://cakepopsgalore.blogspot.com/2012/05/mothers-day-lemonade-stand.html

Queen Elinor Crowns

Tapestry Class....
Disney Brave coloring pages!
Bear Claw Necklaces!

I designed these tree vases to hold greenery to go around the crafty carver
The highlight of the party was "Angus" ....pony rides! The kids LOVED this and surely will be talking about this sweet pony for days to come! Thank you to Spit Creek Ranch for providing this beautiful Welsh pony for our sweet party guests to enjoy!!
Now, on to the food table....

Fruit Kabobs
Lord Macintosh-n-Cheese
Lord MacGuffin Meatballs
Lord Dingwall Chips-n-dip
Drinks...none other than Witches Brew!!
Archers, to your marks!
"I am Merida, first born descendant of Clan DunBroch. And I'll be shooting for my own hand!"
And then there was the dessert bar....

Cotton Candy as Will-o'-the-Wisps
All blue was what I really wanted but unfortunately I did not find all blue cotton candy in this remote little mountain community I live in, so multi color it was! Living here in the mountains did make it super easy to find these great tree discs for my dessert bar.  A local firewood guy cut them to my liking and charged me a mere $2 a disc, a very nice deal!!  I lined each disc with parchment paper prior to putting the desserts on top of them.
Scottish Sweet Buns....
I simply made vanilla scones topped with royal icing and a cherry sour!
Cups-of-cake
I found the most adorable cupcake toppers here http://www.etsy.com/shop/CreativeFondants  Super sweet Rochelle is great to work with...this is our second time ordering from her. Her work is awesome!!
Bear Paw Brownies made in honor of Mordu
More of the dessert bar...Bow-n-Arrow Cookies
The Brave inspired cake!!
A fabulous, delicious cake made by a sweet friend of mine, Kristina Herrera... go check out her amazing work at http://krissyscakecreations.com/ My daughter LOVED her cake!  Kristina does such a wonderful job not only on the details but also makes a great tasting, super moist cake!!
Let the Disney Highland Games begin.....
Cake Toss...
my talented husband created this piece which I painted after seeing the pics from Walt Disney World's Highland Games  I made small cakes for the toss out of dried beans and felt with my ever so handy glue gun...that's right no sewing involved on this!!  Super easy!! I wrapped the beans in nylons, tied them off, then hot glued the felt for a more sturdy and cute cake look! I was very please with how they turned out!!
Archery.....
my husband created this with a few fence posts and an old tire that I covered with a old sheet.  Added some paint for the bullseye effect and as simple as that we had our very own archery set up!! We used Brave bow & arrows that were housed in this great basket from my local Ross store.  The kids loved this game!!
Another shot of our walkway.....Where will the wisps lead you to?
"Some say our destiny is tied to the land, as much a part of us as we are of it. Others say fate is woven together like a cloth, so that one's destiny intertwines with many others. It's the one thing we search for, or fight to change. Some never find it. But there are some who are led."
I love parties and sweet details!!  I love making my kids feel like their birthday is the most special day it can be each and every year.  This party was no exception!!  Happy Birthday to our Princess Merida!!

St Patrick's Day Fun

 Our Great Leprechaun Trap
Having elementary aged children means making leprechaun traps at school each St. Patrick's Day....well, this year we decided to make a big one at home...Our good ol lemonade stand came in handy for the great trap. We set up several small traps on it in hopes of catching a real live leprechaun.
Surely, this cake would be enticing enough to catch one of those sneaky little guys! Adorned with gold coins and a pot of gold...who could resist?
