A very special 6 year old had a very special pirate party this weekend....after months of planning and a little work...a great party was had by all! Everyone arrived to enjoy some yummy pirate food. Then the party goers played some pirate games. The birthday boy enjoyed a day filled with lots of fun with all his family and friends!

I felt so lucky to win something and what a great thing it was. It inspired me to give my kids a really cool back to school bash!! This year I used tootsie rolls for stems and decorator icing for leaves. Back to School Banner and some cute polka dot balloons brightened up the room. Did you know? I LOVE polka dot balloons!!! They are so fun!

For our centerpiece I took advantage of the beautiful local sunflowers we have in our area and added some back to school flair with fresh red apples along with some of the back to school printables

Candy buffet fun!! I tried to get candies that had some cool school flair...Nerds, Lemon and Air Heads, Sprees...for those back to school shopping sprees...you get the picture!! Shopping sprees...here we come!

Cute Back to school notepads from the Dollar Tree and a few Crayola colored pencils tied together with a cute green polka ribbon will offer hours of doodling fun!! All in all, my kids were excited about all the candy and the fun back to school decor our home was filled with this weekend. Happy Back to School to all of you!!!

Pink and Purple Birthday Party Fun for my Sweet Daughter This little wooden doll dessert table scene was the inspiration for the party. It was a fabulous find on etsy last year after her last birthday. The esty shop owner is no longer in business...boo! She did excellent work and we will cherish this little treasure forever! The cake...words can not describe just how perfect the cake was!!...but then again it was from the fabulous Melinda over at www.cakegoodness.com so how could it be anything but perfect! I sent her a picture of our little doll dessert table and she replicated the cake just perfectly!! She makes delicious cakes and they are so beautiful...she sells and ships cake pops too, so if you are looking to buy from someone, she's the gal!

marshmallow pops....super simple...I used strawberry marshmallows (they are PINK!!)...dipped them in some pink melting chocolate and sprinkled with some pink and purple sprinkles...so, so easy!!!

Heart Sprinkles and Sweetheart candies that I used

These were much easier to make then I first thought they would be.....follow the basic cake pop recipe for making your cake balls.... http://cakepopsgalore.blogspot.com/2008/09/cake-pop-recipe.html

Place cake balls in refrigerator then gather your supplies

Here's what you'll need:

Sugar cones

Chocolate candy melts (I used Wilton)
I used pink, white and purple melts but you can use any color you choose

Sprinkles

(I used mini and small hearts)

Sweet Hearts candy

Serrated knife

Styrofoam

Lollipop sticks

Cut the sugar cones using a serrated knife so that you have about 2-2 1/2 inches of the bottom half of the cone

Place the cones in your Styrofoam...I had to made my Styrofoam holes a bit bigger than usual and did so using a lollipop stick

Melt your candy coating in the microwave in a small but deep bowl. (I use Pampered chef 2 cup size glass bowls)

Here is the part that was the most awkward for me......when making cake pops, you don't want your pop falling off your stick! ...but when making ice cream cones, you do want them to fall off as easily as possible....So, take a lollipop stick and place it just a little way into the cake ball and dip into the melted chocolate, gently remove it form your candy bowl and place it on top of the sugar cone. If it is difficult to get off of the lollipop stick and on top the cone use another stick and gently push it off into the cone. Sprinkle with sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet then let dry. Don't worry about the top looking messy or having a hole, this will be covered by the next step.

Once your cones are dry take a second melted candy coating color and add a small amount with a spoon on the top then garnish with your sweetheart candy.

It was gingerbread house time for our family....a tradition my mom started long ago when I was little....one that I am sure I will pass along to my kids so that in turn they may pass it along to theirs some day in the future. I saved a few milk and egg nog cartons...and glued graham crackers on with royal icing ahead of time so the kids could just decorate and not fuss over the perfect sized cracker for their carton....it worked great...they got so messy with frosting and candy everywhere but it was the best time!! Holidays are such a fun time of year here at our home

Turkey Cake Pops

Turkey cake pops!

Here's what you'll need:

Candy Chocolate melts

lolly pop sticks

Oreo cookies (double stuffed)

whoppers

candy corn

orange, red and white icing writer for the face and feet details

Styrofoam

I have had a lot of inquires lately about the consistency of the melted chocolate lately and this is what it should look like, very smooth and melty....Once your cake is mixed with your frosting and refrigerated then you roll the mixture into balls the size of a quarter or so....

After the cake balls are all rolled, melt your chocolate and dip the lollipop stick into the chocolate and then into the center of the cake ball...let it set..which usually happens by the time I have finished putting the last stick in....then dip the whole pop in the melted chocolate...gently tapping the stick on the side of the bowl to get all the excess chocolate off...if the balls fall off then put them into the freezer for 10-15 min to firm up and try again

I made these while my pops were in the freezer firming up....I used double stuff Oreos because them seem to have the right space between the cookies to easily place the candy corn in the middle of the cookie....use anywhere from 4 to 7 candy corn to make them look like turkey feathers....

Now for the tricky part.....so once I dipped my cake pop into the melted chocolate, I immediately placed the cookie feathers on the back side of the pop and put the whooper on top for the head.....problem was....all my cookies began to fall off as the chocolate set and hardened....so I then tried dipping the pop, letting it set and then adding the cookie and whopper using the melted chocolate as a glue....I didn't like how they looked....I liked the first step better because the cookie formed to the body better and looked more like one piece...so I just kept doing it the first way and when the cookie fell off I just glued it back on with the chocolate...yeah, I know lots of work! This was my most time consuming batch to date....but, so, so totally worth it!!!! I made them for my little guy's class party and all the kids just loved them...that in itself was so rewarding!!!

The final product....I placed them on a covered piece of Styrofoam with some added ribbon...I added some ribbon to some random turkey's too just for a little added sparkle!

5 years ago in a galaxy far, far away......a birthday party was hosted for a Lego Star Wars Jedi!!! Lego Star Wars themed birthday party goodies....

Death Star Cake Pops in shapes of stars and round pops with silver sugar crystals. I used white melting chocolate and tinted it ever so slightly with a small dab of black Wilton icing tint Star Wars Party Invite.....5 years ago, in a galaxy far, far away....... Star Wars Cake from Linda's Cakes-n-things....this cake was so moist and flavorful, mouth watering delicious!! Party decorThese cool trays were made for only a few bucks....thanks to http://www.joyshope.com/2010/06/carnival-of-tiered-trays.html and the Dollar Tree We had a few fun games planned for the little Jedi's....the rain storm we had that afternoon did wreak some havoc on our games but we had so much fun anyway....Each little Jedi completed Jedi training. The Jedi training course, light saber training and a light saber ability test with Master Jedi, (Hayden's daddy) Then they destroyed the Death Star (a chalk drawing of the death star) where each Jedi threw water balloons at the death star until it completely faded away. And the grand finale of destroying Darth Vader...(a pinata)...they all had so much fun!!Each Jedi received a Jedi Knight Training Certificate along with their Jedi Knight capes and light sabers as party favorsDarth Vader just waiting to be destroyed by the Jedi KnightsCandy buffet goodies included...Bounty Hunter bounty (foil wrapped bubble gum coins), Asteroid Pops (ring pops), Space Rocks (pop rocks), Space Dust (nerds), Light Sabers (pixie sticks), and Darth Maul Malts (whoppers) Little Jedi Hayden has already turned to the dark side after visiting the candy buffetMoon Dust (nerds) Edible Ewoks...aka Sour Patch Kids

This Father's Day I took a break from making cake pops...actually I have taken a huge break from making cake pops....I haven't made any since graduation time...my creative spirit has been lacking when it comes to pops...I've been busy with other things like moving, and trying to get my new home settled. I did do a big to do for Father's Day but instead of cake pops we had mini hamburgers and fries....take a look...cupcake/brownie hamburgers and sugar cookie fries, so yummy!! I found the idea last Father's Day from Bakerella, She is the best!!....http://www.bakerella.com/fast-food-fun/Super easy idea...bake yellow cupcakes, a pan of brownies and a sheet of sugar cookies. Sprinkle the tops of the cupcakes with white nonpareils sprinkles prior to baking. Once baked and cooled, cut the cupcake in half, use a small circle cutter and cut the brownies, place brownie in the center of the cupcake, decorate with red, yellow, green icing writer for condiments and there you have it...a cupcake hamburger....as for the fries..roll out a batch of sugar cookies, I used my pizza cutter to cut straight lines and then cut them lengthwise and placed them in a sugared cookie sheet and baked....super delish, and super easy!The whole theme was centered around this card. The kids recorded a cute personal voice message to their dad, he thought it was really great!!

I went with a Super Dad theme because of course my kids think their dad is a Super and I most certainly know he is a Super Dad!! Happy Father's Day to all of you Super Dads out there!! We had a small candy buffet that they enjoyed snacking on all day long! Filled the house with some very cute polka dot balloons and had a grand ol' time doing whatever Super Dad requested for the day!!

Of course we had to incorporate a little hand print art

I made the kids "My Dad is a Super Dad" T-shirts to wear the eve of Father's Day. We gave him a Super Dad T shirt and some Superman shorts...it was a great celebration and now he knows just how Super we think he is!!!

These were for me...a treat to myself...say what you will, we needed a centerpiece!!!!

Just before the dipping step add a few mini marshmallows randomly to the ball using the melted chocolate like a glue. Once dry dip the whole pop into the yellow melted chocolate and viola...you will have a popcorn cake pop!

Bakerella http://www.bakerella.com/you-asked/ did it again and once again, I copied her....she is amazing and has so much creativity!!Gather your supplies...follow basic cake pop recipe here's the one I follow http://cakepopsgalore.blogspot.com/2008/09/cake-pop-recipe.htmlMix cake and frosting together, refrigerate for an hour or overnight if you like to make these over two days like I often doonce cake/frosting mixture is chilled roll into quarter size balls. I like to use my melon scoop because it gives me the perfect amount Dip lollipop stick into your melted chocolate and inset into the center of cake ballsTa da....ready for dippingfor a Mickey & Minnie effect I added chocolate melts for ears using some of the melted chocolate as a glue. This did not work out so well for me though. My ears kept falling off so next time I am going to try using a Necco wafer http://www.necco.com/Default.asp or another round candy of some sort so that they will not fall off as easily....also making sure the melt is firmly in the cake helped a bit, but still quite a lot of effort Minnie and Mickey Mouse Happy Cake Popping Disney Fans!!!

Bakerella did it again....she made some super cute Snowmen cake pops and inspired me to do the same! Here are my snowmen...I tried making them around Christmas but they did not turn out nearly as cute...so not cute that I didn't even take a photo of them, imagine that!! To make these cake pops, I followed the cake pop recipe http://cakepopsgalore.blogspot.com/2008/09/step-by-step-process.html and used white melting chocolate for the snowman, regular and mini Oreo cookies for the hats, glued them together with the melting chocolate. For the eyes I used both sugar eyes and black sugar pearls. For the mouth I used both black sugar pearls and the Americolor black pen. For the nose I used orange jelly beans and since I had a few candy corn left over I used the orange tips of the candy corn, too....as one can see there are many variations of candy you can use, get creative, and have fun!!
These were some cute snowmen, yes, but they seemed to be missing something...they looked a little cold, so I added a "fruit roll-up" scarf....boy did my kids ever think I was clever, not...they wanted to know why I was using their stash and not my own!

These snowmen remind me of my favorite snowmen book "Snowmen At Night" by Caralyn Buehner. It is a wonderful little story about what snowmen do when we are all tucked away in our beds...next time you make a snowman and he doesn't look quite the same the next day, You too, will wonder....What do Snowmen do at night?

Reindeer and Christmas Tree Cake Pops

These are my Reindeer and Christmas trees from last year. I wanted to make more this year but ran out of time...wanted to improve upon my skills, these were made just as I was beginning to learn how to make cake pops....pretty cute anyway!!

I used Wilton melting milk chocolate for the reindeer with pretzels for the antlers and red hots for the noses. The eyes are mini white sugar sprinkles

For the trees I used green melting chocolate and decorated with red and white decor sprinkles...yellow stars at the top would be so cute!!

Made these today for a friend's daughter...it was her birthday! What a cute display of cake pop yumminess! In coming up with a theme and trying to get some ideas of what her daughter might like I asked her favorite color...it's blue...so I went with some blue pops and added a flowery touch to them. I really like the yellow! The flowers are made with white and yellow icing writer and a white sugar pearl in the center....Happy Birthday to you, Stefani!! I sure hope you liked your cake pops!

Black icing writer for the cow spots and the M on the Moo pop

Milk Chocolate and Vanilla cake pops. I made this batch with the homemade cream cheese frosting. It is definitely the way to go. I loved the cake flavor. It was light and so delish. I will never use the can frosting ever, ever again. And the best part, the frosting was so, so easy to make!

What you'll need for homemade cream cheese frosting:

8 ounce pk cream cheese softened

1/2 cup butter

2 teaspoons Madagascar vanilla

3 cups powdered sugar....add a cup or 2 more if you want it sweeter

1. Combine the cream cheese, butter and vanilla with a mixer until light and fluffy

2. Slowly add in the powdered sugar

yields 4 cups...use 2 cups for a 9x13 cake....you can refrigerate the left over’s or use it as a fruit dip or on bagels or muffins. Or if you'd like you can eat it by the spoon like we did...Yum!!

Follow the basic cake pop how to

Shape the cake mixture into an oval shape. Chill until firm.
Dip a lollipop stick in a little of the white chocolate (this will act as a glue for the cake and lollipop stick) and insert into the cake pop about halfway. Once the chocolate is dry..
Dip the sheep body in a bowl of melted white chocolate.

Make sure the bowl is deep enough to dip and remove easily.
Tap off any excess coating.
This next part gets kinda tricky...

Before the melting chocolate dries sprinkle with the white sugar pearls or black if you are making black sheep, quickly push in each of the black licorice for the legs before the chocolate dries hard. Now you can add the M&M for the face using a toothpick or lollipop stick to add on melted chocolate to be used like a glue, then embellish the face again using the melted chocolate as a glue for adding the eyes, ears and nose

Place in Styrofoam for drying

Circus Clown Cake Pops

Is the circus in town in your area? Well it is not in mine but I thought cake pop clowns would be fun anyway....so here they are.......my cake pop clown circus!!

What I used:

White melting chocolate

pink and yellow fondant for the hats

rainbow colored decor sprinkles for the eyes and hat decorations

jumbo confetti sprinkles for the nose

jumbo star sprinkles for the hats

jumbo hearts for the nose

mini hearts for eyes and hat decorations

red icing for the hair and faces

black icing for the faces

I made the hats ahead of time, decorating them with a combination of hearts, decors, and stars. The hats are made from ready to use fondant....very easy to use...just roll out a small piece and shape into the form of your choice then decorate using the melting chocolate as glue to add on sprinkles/decors.

Once I dipped the pop in the white melted chocolate and got the excess off, I put the hat on so that it would set with the chocolate as it dried...placed the pop in the Styrofoam block to dry and then decorated the faces and added the hair.

Here's to you...the Oscar the Grouch fans....My Oscar's turned out looking a little too happy and not so grouchy!!

What you will need:

Green melting chocolates

green sprinkles ( my favorite but I ran out again after one Oscar...I need a bigger container)

dark green sugar crystals

White Mentos for the eyes

I also used white icing on some of the eyes

Black icing for the eyes and mouth

Brown icing for the eyebrows

red icing for the mouth

After I dipped my cake pop into the melted chocolate, I placed the mentos and applied the sprinkles...then into the styrafoam for drying....afterwards I decorated with icing. If using icing for the eyes and not the mentos....dip pop into melted chocolate and apply sprinkles and place in styrafoam. Once dry, decorate....Happy Cake Popping

These were fun to make...easy and fun!!

They tasted really good too because it was chocolate cake and the chocolate combo with the Mentos made it taste like a York Peppermint Patty...but way cuter!!

Ok, Yes I went overboard with the whole cake pop thing on this one!! I would not recommend making these unless you want to dedicate a lot of time to them.....yeah, 2 hours of decorating....the good thing was I had all the supplies already, leftovers!! The best part was when the kids woke up this morning.....they were tickled pink!!! They were so excited to see the Backyardigans on the counter top.....my highlight....they knew who each one was....guess that means they are recognizable....even if only to a 2 and 3 yr old!!! I love them!!! My little ones and this new cake pop batch!!! Happy Cake Popping!!!!

Here's what you'll need:

black mini decors....(they are sold in a Halloween mix by Wilton)

black M&M's for the head

thin black licorice for the antenna

small white sprinkles for the eyes

or you can use the red melting chocolate to make a heart or smiling mouth

Follow the basic cake pop recipe. Shape your cake into the form of an oval or circle if you prefer.

After dipping into the melted chocolate add your M&M for the head and black decors for your spots while your chocolate is still setting. Should it set before you get all your spots on, use the melted chocolate as a glue to put them on....then decorate you face and add your antenna.

You'll have cute little bugs that everyone will enjoy!

Hello Kitty Cake Pops

Hello Kitty Cake pops!!

Here's what you'll need:

Cake and frosting (follow basic Cake Pop how to)
Mini Red decors or M&M’s
White chocolate candy melts
White Chocolate Chips
Jumbo Heart Sprinkles
Rainbow Chip Sprinkles
Americolor Black Edible Ink Pen
Lollipop Sticks
Styrofoam Block

1. Shape the Hello Kitty heads into a semi-flat oval shape. Insert tip of lollipop stick into some of the melted candy and insert into the bottom of the Hello Kitty head.
2. Use two white chocolate chips and dip the bottoms in the melted candy and then place/glue them on the top of Hello Kitty head one on each side near the top.
3. Stand them up in a styrofoam block to dry.
4. When the ears are firmly attached to the head, dip the entire Hello Kitty head in a bowl of the white melted candy. Make sure the bowl is deep enough so you can get it in one dip. Then remove and gently tap off any extra coating. This will help give it a smooth look.
5. Once dry, apply the hearts and decors or M&M’s to make a bow and the yellow rainbow chips to make a nose. You can use a toothpick and a little bit of the melted candy to act as the glue.
6. Draw the eyes and whiskers on using an black edible ink pen.

Cake pops? What are cake pops you say?? They are delicious...cake on a stick!! First introduced to me by a friend, TeeJ…everyone raved about how delicious these little treats were at a party she held. I decided to make some for my son’s birthday party, (all 110 pops….I will never make that many again!!) and boy, what a hit they were!! I have since found an awesome baking blog…http://bakerella.blogspot.com/…she is such a talented, talented, did I mention talented baker!! She has so many great ideas for cake pops!! I have totally gone overboard over cakepops, making them for every little holiday that comes around. I find myself dozing off at night thinking of how I will decorate the next batch I make….until then here is the recipe that I follow for my pops!!

1 9x13 cake mix (homemade or box)
1.5 to 2 cups cream cheese frosting (see recipe below)
Candy melts ( I use Wilton colored chocolate) 3 bags needed per 9x13 cake size
Lollipop sticks
Decorating supplies….sprinkles, edible pens, icing, fondant…the sky is the limit
Styrofoam blocks

My delish cream cheese frosting recipe
What you'll need:
8 ounce pk cream cheese softened
1/2 cup softened butter
2 teaspoons Madagascar vanilla
1-2 cups powdered sugar....add a cup more if you want it sweeter or less if you prefer less sweet

1. Combine the cream cheese, butter and vanilla with a mixer until light and fluffy
2. Slowly add in the powdered sugar
Use 1.5 to 2 cups for a 9x13 cake....you can refrigerate the left over’s or use it on bagels or muffins...Yum!!

1. After cake is cooked and completely cooled, crumble into large bowl.
2. Mix thoroughly with 1 1/2 cups frosting using a large fork or spoon. It will look like the consistency of thanksgiving stuffing....if it seems a little dry add more frosting. Next, place in fridge for 1 hr or overnight if you want to divide up the process into 2 days (this step makes the mixture so much less sticky and so much easier to work with)
3. Scoop out mixture with melon scoop into quarter size balls and place on cookie sheet. (Should make 45 or so)
4. Melt chocolate in the microwave per directions on package in microwave safe bowl (30 sec intervals, stirring in between.) I usually do this 3 times for my microwave setting
5. Dip the tip of your lollipop stick in a little of the melted candy coating and insert into the cake balls. (Insert a little less than halfway.)
6. Place them in the freezer for about 1/2 hour so they firm up. (you may not need this step if your cake mixture is cold enough from the fridge trip) but if they start falling off into the chocolate mixture...put them in the freezer for 30 min or so til they firm up...
7. Once firm, carefully insert the cake ball into the candy coating by holding the lollipop stick and rotating until covered. Once covered remove and softly tap and rotate until the excess chocolate falls off. Don't tap too hard or the cake ball will fall off, too. If adding sprinkles do so right away while chocolate is still melted. If your cake pops do begin to fall off the lollypop sticks you may want to place them back in the freezer to firm up a little more.
8. Place in a Styrofoam block to dry.
9. Decorating ideas are endless…you can add decorative confections afterwards by using the melting chocolate as a glue, decorate with edible pens for faces or names, you can even use fondant if you so desire…let your creative side take over..... Happy Cake Popping!!!

Prepare and bake your cake...any flavor!

Roll cake/frosting mixture into quarter size balls then melt your chocolate, dip your lollypop stick in the melted chocolate and insert into the middle of your cake ball

freeze for 30 min so they are very firm...you can skip this step and go straight to dipping if your mixture is already firm form the refrigerator step

Dip into melted chocolate

Gently tap off excess chocolate

Decorate and Enjoy!! Happy Cake Popping!!
